In our rural area, we occasionally have the joy of seeing eagles effortlessly gliding across the sky. Their keen eyesight and enormous wingspan (6 feet or more) enable them to fly steadily at 1,000 feet and readily spot their prey.
Besides being built efficiently and aerodynamically, these beautiful creatures can locate air currents then catch a ride on the thermals they’ve detected. Such updrafts can carry an eagle as high as 20,000 feet, yet they do not get light-headed or winded since their large lungs and amazing network of blood vessels adjust the oxygen they need to keep them going strong. Rarely, though, do we see these powerful birds flap their wings.
According to God’s Word, we’re meant to have a similar experience!
“Those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint,” Isaiah 40:31.
Now, the thing about soaring is the ongoing need to rely on the Holy Spirit to be our current updraft. Otherwise, we’re just flapping our wings, wearing ourselves out, and going nowhere.
Our job, then, is to trust God, invite Him to carry us through each day, and rest in Him as He guides us where we’re meant to go.
Heavenly Father, thank You for lifting and uplifting us. Help us to trust You completely and surrender ourselves fully into Your care. May each part of our lives bring honor to You as our spirits soar with Yours in the power of Jesus’ Name. Amen.
