Building a place of worship brings joy!
When time came for King Solomon to build the Temple to honor the Lord God, the people brought offerings of gold, silver, bronze, iron, marble, and precious stones.
“Then the people rejoiced, for that they offered willingly, because with perfect heart they offered willingly to the Lord: and David the king also rejoiced with great joy.” 1 Chronicles 29:9, King James Version of the Bible (KJV.)
Over four centuries later, the Babylonians invaded Jerusalem, razed the Temple, and took the people into captivity where they remained for many years. Eventually, though, the Babylonians lost power, and Cyprus, King of Persia, allowed the Jewish people to return to Jerusalem to rebuild the Temple.
“But many of the priests and Levites and chief of the fathers, who were ancient men, that had seen the first house, when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, wept with a loud voice; and many shouted aloud for joy: So that the people could not discern the noise of the shout of joy from the noise of the weeping of the people: for the people shouted with a loud shout, and the noise was heard afar off,” Ezra 3:12-13, KJV.
Believing in God brings Joy
“…let all those that put their trust in Thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because Thou defendest them: let them also that love Thy name be joyful in Thee,” Psalm 5:11, KJV.
“And my soul shall be joyful in the Lord: it shall rejoice in His salvation,” Psalm 35:9, KJV.
“Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise,” Psalm 98:4, KJV.
“This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength,” Nehemiah 8:10.
“The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; He will save, He will rejoice over thee with joy; He will rest in His love, He will joy over thee with singing,” Zephaniah 3:17, KJV.
“Now may our God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in Him so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit,” Romans 15:13.
Being just and fair brings joy.
“Justice brings joy to the righteous,” Proverbs 21:15.
“The meek and humble will have joy after joy in the Lord,” Isaiah 29:19.
“O let the nations be glad and sing for joy: for Thou (God) shalt judge the people righteously, and govern the nations upon earth,” Psalm 67:4, KJV.
Christ’s coming brings joy.
“And the angel said unto them (the Shepherds), Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord,” Luke 2:10-11, KJV.
“When they (the Wise Men) saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy,” Matthew 2:10, KJV.
“These things have I (Jesus) spoken unto you, that My joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.This is My commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you,” John 15:11-12, KJV.
“Until now you have not asked for anything in My name. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy will be complete,” John 16:24.
“These things write we to you, that your joy may be full,” 1 John 1:4.
Salvation brings joy.
“For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by Whom we have now received the atonement,” Romans 5:10-11, KJV.
“Let’s focus on Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith, Who for the joy set before Him suffered on the cross, disregarding its shame, and is seated at the right hand of God,” Hebrews 12:2.
“Brothers and sisters, when you encounter various trials and tribulations, consider it all joy,” James 1:2.
Our joy honors God
When we come together to worship the Lord, we en-joy fellowship with Him and one another.
When we take God at His Word, we’re joyful to know Who He is and what He does.
When we see God’s justice and mercy, we rejoice in what’s good and fair and right.
When we receive Jesus Christ as God’s Gift to us, we’re overjoyed by His coming into our lives.
When we believe in God’s saving grace, even in the most difficult times, we’re filled with joy, knowing He will work all things for our good, draw us closer to Him, and love us into eternal life.
