On this first week of the Advent of the Christmas season, many churches focus on the word “Hope,” which makes it an ideal time to ask, “What do you hope for?” – not only during Advent, but all year?
As children of God, we can safely place steadfast hopes in the Lord and His goodness, knowing we can always trust Him to do what’s best for us – spiritually, mentally, and physically – for God is love. And God loves us. God loves you.
The Bible offers hundreds of verses on the merits of hope, which have been narrowed down here to help us consider how we can honor God.
We honor God as we hope in His holiness and the promises in His Word.
“Let Your mercy be upon us, O Lord, as we hope in You,” Psalm 33:22.
“Now, O Lord, for what do I wait? My hope is in You,” Psalm 39:7.
“For You are my hope, O Lord God! I have trusted You since I was young,” Psalm 71:5.
“Before the sun rises, I call to You for help. I place my hope in Your word,” Psalm 119:147.
Honoring God brings blessings.
“Blessed are those who trust in the Lord and place their hope in Him,” Jeremiah 17:7.
“’I know the plans I have for you,’ says the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you a future and a hope’,” Jeremiah 29:11.
“Hope does not disappoint us, for God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit Who has been given to us,” Romans 5:5.
“I pray for you to be enlightened, so you may know the hope to which God has called you and the riches of His glorious inheritance among the saints,” Ephesians 1:18.
“There is one Body and one Spirit, even as you were called in one hope of your calling,” Ephesians 4:4.
“God wants people throughout the world to know the glorious riches of this mystery: Christ is in you, the hope of glory,” Colossians 1:27.
We honor God as we hope in an everlasting future with Him.
“May we who live in the light be clearheaded, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet, the hope of salvation,” 1 Thessalonians 5:8.
“We have the hope of eternal life, which God Who cannot lie, promised before time began,” Titus 1:2.
“We wait for the blessed hope that is the glorious appearance of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,” Titus 2:13.
“We have this sure and steadfast hope as an anchor for the soul. This hope enters behind the curtain in the Most Holy Place in heaven,” Hebrews 6:19.
“Have your minds clear and ready for action and set your hopes on the grace to be brought to you at the re-appearing of Jesus Christ,” I Peter 1:13.

As the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible reminds us, ““Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen,” Hebrews 11:1.
With faith at the core of our beliefs in the salvation of the Lord Jesus Christ, we know we will someday see God and remain alive in Him forever. What a hope!
